Same restore I have been working on for a few weeks. I changed it to electronic ignition but am getting nothing at the plugs as far as I can tell. Checked the ignition and I think the original wiring was wrong.

Any suggestions? Is there a diagram I can check out somewhere? The project budget is about finished and I am struggling to understand how the dist and coil should be wired.

Yikes.. bad wireing and EI's are not a thing to play with. Way easy to smoke a 150$ ei if yuo don't know how to use a piar of wire cutters or trace a circuit.

I always tell people to get their points ignition in order BEFORE swapping to an EI.. makes it sooo much easier.

If your Ei didn't come with a wire diagram.. call em up.. you paid them the big bucks for that module.

Id your unit 6v? 12v? etc.. need more info to help you out here.

Its 12v. The wiring was done with a not original start switch separate from the not original key switch.

The real problem was that all the wiring that was there to begin with was degraded so badly that just touching it was cause for it to fall apart. It was hard to trace.

Maybe I should get a new set of points to troubleshoot? Still a little shaky about the wiring. Is a diagram around somewhere?

Copy and paste this >Link

into>Link your address bar. There you will find numerous diagrams for the 600 series according to whether or not you have a 1 or 3 wire 12 volt conversion with or without diode. Hope this is as helpful to you as it was to me. It also has a lot of other useful info.

Everywhere... just check the archives.. however.. just remember that the alternator wires to one side of the ammeter, and the wire for the key switch comes of fthere as well.. the other side of the ammeter is wired to the battery ( or hot side of the solenoid ). If you have lamps.. pick the power up the same place the key switch is connected on that side of the ammeter.

That's the 'EZ' wire diagram for all fords from sidemount 8n thru 00 gas hundred series with alternators and side coils..

with that.. and the info from your EI module.. you should be ok.

( that leaves out starter solenoid.. but.. you wire up what yuo've got based on what type it is... sounds like yours is NON-oem... so can't comment on it.. )

The fire order is 1243. #1 is closest to the radiator.

The wiring for the coil should be in the kit you got. Is it not?

Check that you have power to the coil and dist. That may be the issue.

luck,
