I have a 1967 5000 Row Crop gasoline (233 engine). Has anyone had experience in replacing the engine with a diesel 233 or 256 CI? I'm in no immediate hurry to do it, as the current engine runs well, but was curious as to the degree of difficulty, and other factors involved. BTW, I have the 8 speed manual trans.

You would be happier and its much simpler to get a second tractor. Always use 2. Tom

My uncle swapped out his 256ci Diesel for a Turbo charged engine out of a 7610. I believe it is 80-90 hp. He has the 8-speed behind it. Says its a pretty tractor now. I would love to get rid of the gas for a set up like that. It only takes $$$$.

To change the complete engine out? That's a snap. Get the complete engine with flywheel and starter. Slap it in place. Install a fuel return line into the fuel tank at the filler neck, hook up the lines and go.
Technically a gas engine could be converted to diesel if you wanted to go through all the trouble as they were designed as diesel engines to begin with, but the cost would be prohibitive... An engine swap is the smart, easy thing to do.
