NWMO 901 SOS

Hello all,

Been offline for a couple of days. Lost power Monday night and hope to get back some time this weekend. Working with my brother-in-laws gererator now and it has worked quite well. Let us get a few lights and run the well pump at any rate. Just to keep this tractor related, a PTO operated generator is the way to go if you are looking in the 10kW size or larger. Most around here are getting by with 4000 watt to 6000 watt units and running one heavy load item at a time, well pump, furnace, etc. We lost the tops out of, I'm guessing after a quick walk this morning, about 50 trees, mostly hickory. Thought I would include a pic. We got about a 1/2" or maybe a little more of ice. Have not lost much today, but if the wind picks up before the ice is off, it will take quite a few more. Should give me something to use the 901 on this spring.

Thanks everyone,

I appreciate the replies. Tonight is suppose to get quite cold (10 degrees) but it's suppose to warm up this week starting Monday. Hope to get the 901 out tomorrow and blade a little snow, maybe help the neighbor pull a few tree tops out of his drive. The small towns have power back and many in the country too. Some houses just a few miles north have it, so we'll have it soon. Thanks again.

Chris

Hey JB,

Thanks for all your knowledge and replies on this Board, it's the folks like you that help so many of us out. It will be nice to get the power back, but with the generator hooked up last night it was real liveable. We were able to flush the toilets and everything. Probably even get a hot shower this evening.

Chris

I got lucky this time and most of the ice missed me. We didn't loose power so at least I don't have problems like in January. I know how it is with no power thats why we fill the bath tub with water if they call for an ice storm so we can at least flush the toilet. We also use hot water to help keep the house warm a little bit longer. There calling for 308 inches of snow tonight and tomorrow but at least I can deal with it. I know how you feel right about now and hope things work out for you

Barnard, grew up on this ground and just moved back this summer. My parents just built a new house on the south 20 and we took the north 20. Love the small community and schools for our boys.

We live in the Clarinda area. We were in St. Joe yesterday. On the way home, last evening, we noticed almost all of the houses were dark from Midway through Clearmont. Both Clearmont and Wilcox were completely dark. My wife's grandmother was born in the Barnard area.

If it weren't for all the devestation, the ice coated trees do look pretty!

Hope you get your power back up soon.

Hopefully, most of your neighbors will have wood burners to keep warm. We burn occasionally and the times the power has dropped or the LP has gone dry, it keeps the house liveable.

Aren't ice storms fun! I went to Tulsa, OK last Sunday evening because I had tests at the hospital on Monday. The wife insisted that we go Sunday because of the weather forecast, and I wanted to wait until Monday morning to see what the weather was going to do. We drove right into that ice storm, and the closer that we got to Tulsa the worse it got. When we got to Tulsa it looked like we were in a war zone the way the electrical transformers were blowing up. Made it to our hotel room and the next morning they called and said that the power was off at the hospital and they were on standby generation so they couldn't run any tests. I told them I was going back home if possible, by the time we got back to the Arkansas line we were out of it and home never looked better. I know there are still thousands without power, and I feel for you all as I've been there and done that!!!!!
