Does it REALLY have a mag???

The distributor used on these tractors is "odd-looking", and often mistaken for a mag.

Gene..... .the weird 4-nipple frontmount distributor is a 2-bolt 15-min job to remove and adjust the points to 0.015" on the kitchen table. Caution: the SHORT 3/16-32 screw gitts INVISIBLE wear and slips. Best sparkies are AutoLite 437's gapped 0.025..... ..Dell, yer self-appointed sparkie-meister

Most people swear by the auto lite 437 plugs. The easy way to do the tune up is to remove the distubutor by takeing out the 2 hold down bolts and then install your points etc on a table. The distubutor will only go on one way unless forced and if you force it you will brake it. Never a worry about getting out of time in other words

A magneto is simply a self-contained distributor and coil along with some magnets to generate electricity. It has points just like a distributor. If it is not firing you either have defective or mis-adjusted points, a defective coil, a defective cap or a defective rotor. I'd start the diagnosis by removing the cap and turning the engine over. Do the points open and close? Do you see a spark jumping across them? Start with the basics and work your way down line.
