Got a 941 diesel with a recurring problem. I can't get the valve cover to seal. I have 2 covers and both are bowed slightly from overtightening. I've tried 3 times to get the leaks to stop.. Tried OEM cork gaskets, RTF silicone, and it still leaks BAD!
The next time I try it, I'll ream out the oil return holes, because it sure seems like there is some pressure. Anyone else had this problem? Anybody know where I can find a new straight valve cover?

Thanks a million, Steve

I take them off and go to my vice. It has a nice large flat area for pounding stuff flat on, sort of like an anvil. I put the cover upside down on the edge of the vice and put a piece of flat stock steel in the gasket groove. Then pound the steel to flaten out the warp.

New cork gasket and RTV on both sides. I used to just RTV the cover side, but that never sealed down tight. It's a PIA to remove the cover next time, and it has to be scraped clean, but that's the price to be paid.

I never used the yellow stuff. Just the common black. The difference is?? (John in LA)

Thanks everyone.....

This forum has raised my intelligence level a tad, and I appreciate it.

I think I"ll try to straighten the cover out, and do the RTV/cork gasket trick as suggested. I"ll bet those oil return holes are clogged, so I"ll check those. I"ve got a leaking diesel return line underneath the cover too...

It"s only money and time,right?

Thanks again, Steve

The gas cover is not the same as a diesel or so the parts book says.

Take your cover off and with the round end of a ball pen hammer tap the bolt holes from the underside. This allows the cover to pull down tighter because the bolt holes are bent up away from the head.
Then install with a new cork gasket. Put yellow RTV on both sides of the gasket.
MAKE SURE the drain holes in the head are open. There will be no pressure in there because of the breather but if the oil drains slow and ever gets above the ridge on the head the gasket will leak. It will not hold back a pool of oil that is soaking the back side of the gasket. The gasket only stops splashed oil running down the side of the cover from leaking.

Is the diesel valve cover the same as the gas version?

I have a good valve cover off a Jubilee that will be for sale whenever I get time to take its picture.

try to bend it back into shape...it can be done. Then only tighten enough for it to seal.
Likely if you put pressure on the inside across the points that caused the bow it will go back into shape. What is it going to hurt anyway!

I might try straightening one of them out.
What do you think of plugged return lines? The breather is free and clear.

I don"t know if the cover is the same as a gas cover, but send a pic if you get one taken..

The Pomeroy-Plowman Ranch is near Yacolt Wa. about 30 miles N of Portland Or.
