Hi there,
we live in the Netherlands and a couple of weeks ago we bought a 3000 SOS gas. We tried to get it running but after it ran for approx. 1 minute the engine got stuck ( we thought). We took the engine apart. but the bearings and pistons look fine.If I turn the flywheel anticlockwise trough the starterhole the engine can be turned free. If afterwards I turn it clockwise it starting to turn hard, but still possible. What can be wrong in the SOS gearbox? It sort of works against the engine.

Hope someone can help!!

Thanks

The most common reason an SOS transmission causes drag on the engine is a seized front (direct drive) clutch. After prolonged slippage, the plates will weld themselves together. Try loosening the front band adjusting screw temporarily; don't loosen it too much or the band anchor struts will fall out, loosen it just till the spring pressure begins to release. The try turning the engine. If it turns, the front clutch is seized.

My 3000 will stall the engine (diesel) sometimes when the shifter is not quite in 5th gear. It seems to be between 4th and 5th that something ties up and when I let out the clutch it stalls it. Do you have yours in "Park"?
