I presently have an 8 volt battery in my tractor. I want to know if that could cause problems? Will my 6volt generator charge my 8 volt battery?

you may have to adjust the voltage regulator to get the voltage high enough to charge the battery

It will not generally cause a problem and your generator should charge the battery.

Ah no. I disagree. A 6v. generator is not going to charge that 8v. battery, and no matter how high you turn up the regulator, it's still 6v. Plus, I don't think you can buy an 8v. battery charger, but I could be wrong. The 8v. battery is simply a cover up for bad wiring, poor charging or..... .? Bag the 8v. You are going to have to fix the 6v. system (note: a lot of people on this Board contend that 6v. will work just fine even in cold weather if its in good working order) or convert to 12v. Or you can continue to limp along with charging problems. My $.02

Sorry Tim, but plenty of people are able to adjust their voltage regulator high enough to charge an 8 volt battery.

While I agree you might be able to nurse along an 8v battery on a 6v charging system by cranking up the regulator, most 6v. generators aren't capable of turning out the voltage consistently needed to keep the 8v. battery up to snuff. It isn't a fix for other problems in the system which are really the problems and those problems will eventually catch up to and overwhelm even an 8v battery. I'm not way off base. Check the archives on this Board and you will see plenty of responses the same as mine which won't support going to, or even staying with, an 8v. since nothing electrically fits "right" with 8v. But, I agee with you, like you say, plenty of people use 'em. My $.02
