Anyone ever swap a 12v gen to a 12v alternator on this series tractor. Seems like I'm always messing around trying to get it to charge. Since it sit alot I thought a swap would help. Any thoughts welcome, Bob

I have a 4500 backhoe, that has been converted to one wire delco alt. works great, but you loose your tach drive. you don`t need a tach too much on b-hoe. J.R.

Bob, I have a 4500 and the generator works fine. One of the bearings just went out in the gen. a few months ago. I had the shop replace both, clean it up and check it out for $25. I've had it for 5 years now and it sits alot. Always cranks though. Do yourself a favor if you don't already have one and buy the 4DLT battery, about $120.

One problem with an alternator is the tach drive.

Hi Bob,

I have a 3500 TLB and am always looking for other TLB owners to share advice with.

I've been e-mailing a guy in PA by the name of Dennis Moyer, who replaced his generator with an alternator about a year ago. I'm sure he wouldn't mind hearing from you.

Thanks Duane, I don't recall seeing a 3500. I helped a friend work on his 3550. But that had a manual shift and mine is a shuttle. They are good machines but my electric is such a mess. I don't use it much, mostly on weekends. I have been taking the battery out of my van so I now it's fresh. I taking it back to it's home at my parents, so I would like to get it charging. It will just sit and when I want to use it I would like to put the battery in and have it run good. E-mail me if you have any trouble, I'll try to help. If I don't have the answer my friend used to own a small Ford tractor dealer. He has many hours spent under these machines. Bob
