I found a 10' Ford disc with a flex-o-hitch model 201, I was wondering if my 3910 would be a good match for it. I have a Ford model 202 now and at 6.5' I can almost pull it in road gear. I don't have any specifics on the disc other than width. I belive the 3910 has 36 drawbar hp. and 45 PTO hp. Rear tires are loaded, size are 14.9-28.
thanks,
Brian

Brian

Sorry to hijack this thread but I have a question about your 3910, and PM is not working. My 3910 is missing the hinge that holds the fiberglass cover of the air cleaner, I was wondering if you could e-mail me a picture of the hinge area, so I can try a make one for my tractor. If you could also get me pictures of where water temp, and oil pressure switches are on the engine it would help me with my tractor.

My e-mail is schmalenberg(at)sbcglobal.net

Thanks

Mike

Brian,

I am in Michigan, lots of clay. I have a 3930 4wd.

This is what I can tell you. I have an old 8 foot drag disc (14" discs). I put a cultipacker behind it 8 foot with a 1000 lbs on it, and a drag(leveler) homemade.

I can pull that setup with no problem.

I also have a 13' JD BWA disc. 20" discs, and I think 11" spacing. When I set that in the ground, its like I dropped an anchor. I use this on an AC 7000 (105HP), but figured I would give it a try on the 3930.

I agree with the rest probably 8' if you want a real good cut. Plus, I would rather have a little lighter load and have a little reserve HP, versus running to the max all the time and when I hit wet clay having to lift the disk.

Rick

What is the Flex-O-Hitch system? in reply to Brian in MI, 01-14-2008 14:00:03
What was the purpose of the flex-o-hitch and how did it work?

awhtx,
Was kind of no big deal actually.
The lift pins are hooked to the A frame on the disc by a pair of links. Supposed to allow the disc to float better - side to side, up and down.
This is a picture of a page in my 201 parts book.
Not the best view but gives you the idea.

OK, I saw one of those at an auction this past Saturday and I thought parts were missing because the "triangle" with the hitch pins kind of flopped around loosely.

Thank you all for the info. I was thinking if this disc went cheap enough I would get it and try it, if it pulled too hard I would broom it ang get a good 8'. Looking for one to make the tractor work a little, and not just laugh at what I hitch to it.

I used to have a 201 just like you're talking about, and used it behind my 4600, which just played with it. My Jubilee could pick it up to move it, but I never tried using it behind the Jubilee- knew it would be too much for it. Should be a good match for a 3910 in all but the toughest conditions.

In some situations it will handle it, or should. I've pulled a 10' with a 3930 FWD and it gets around OK on dry hard ground where it isn't working too much depth. If you want to run it deep you're going to run out of traction, especially with a 2 wheel drive.
An 8' disc would be better for your tractor...

I know less about your newer tractor than I do about your disc.
I have that very same disc. Bought it to pull behind my 37 hp 3000.
It will lift and pull it just fine but I'd like to put some weight on it to make it cut better.
The tractor wont do it.
I had an old, heavy, no name 7 1/2' that I sold to buy the 201.
I kept about 250 lbs of elevator weights on it. Made the tractor grunt but it cut my deer plots real good. Should have kept it.
Been thinking about selling or horse trading this one for a good heavy 8'. If I can't, I may cut it down. It has 8 disc wheels per axle now. I'd cut it down to 6. I think your 3910 would pull 8' just fine.

It might pull it, my 3930 pulls a 8 foot Massey 3 point easy enough, thats a 3 point though. A 10 foot transport (if thats what your talking about) might be another story. Depends on traction and ground. Why disk in road gear?

I don"t normaly pull in road gear, but it pulled so easy I thought I would try it. I only did it for about 10". This 201 disc is a 3 pt mount.
thanks for all of the info,
Brian

Maybe in decent conditions, Brian, but that's a lot of disc for 45 PTO HP, and I expect it will be a load for your lift/tractor.

I would think an 8' disc would be a better match.
