third party image

I found this photo in an ebay auction. Seller says it's a shuttle shifter. I haven't seen one that looked like that before. Of course the seller also says it's a 1978 Ford 850 Industrial so you can't really trust the seller!

Metal plate under the radiator.... in reply to Jim.UT, 01-21-2008 20:47:08
That metal plate under the radiator looks like a mounting bracket for a 701/703 loader.

somebody's idea of polution control retrofit???? Look at the ribs on the casting on the rear end too? Did those appear before 4000s. I'm pretty sure the hundreds didn't have them . . . aren't I???

Larry.. looking at the sheet metal.. deffinately looks like an early 4000.. etc.

Prev owner is a bit of a stoop.. if he thinks that's hundred series sheet metal!

Of course.. the id number ont he bellhousing would tell all.

I wonder why owners make up such radical incorrect info.. when it would be just easier to say they don't know what they own.. and just post the #'s so the buyers and lookers can at least know what the machine is..

It's pretty sad the the owner doesn't know what he has. and yet that we.. who are probably not even interested in that auction have a better idea than he does...

Wonder how well he's been maintaning that tractor no knowing what it is???

Post a pic of the front of the hood if there is one..

i think the idea of the early 4000 industrial is probably correct due tot he axle.. same with ps info.. and the possibility it is a reverser tranny.. ain't an 850 with a 4speed.. etc.

The transmission is a sherman reversing type. The lingage is correct according to the parts manual. When you pull it back the tractor backs up and when you push it forward the tractor goes forward. It may not be a true shuttle trans. but it basically does the same thing.

That's a good one. The tractors on e-bay are almost more fun than going to consignment sales.

i say a light duty industrial 4000--63 to 64--non ajustable front end--sherman foward-reversing transmission--power steering has been removed

Just the fact it has a generator on it says its not a 1978. Looks more like a 1960 tractor give or take a year or 2. Also looks like a Sherman that some one rigged up a little bit different.

and with the 4 speed it certainly isn't an 850 either...

Very true. Isn't it sad how people try to sell things and don't have a clue as to what they have or how they try to pawn it off as what its not
