I've been using 15w40 Rotella T in my gas 4 cylinder for a couple of years.Almost always the tractor is used in warm or hot weather. The other day a cold one here,35 degrees I got it out to move some brush. The oil level was almost full,I let it warm up at about 1000 rpm for a while, the oil pressure was at its normal 48 psi. After some 30 minuets of light use with the water temperature in the normal range I noticed the oil pressure would fall to 20psi when I headed down hill,it would recover when leveled out.10 minuets after I shut it off the dip stick showed over a quart low.The oil must not be draining back to the pan for some reason. What are your thoughts about what I should do?

Thanks John Bud.The dipstick checked almost full after sitting overnight. The tractor does use oil,but less than a quart per 100 hour season.Something may be wrong with the pickup tube as you suggested. I'm thinking of overfilling it a bit and see what happens.

Add a quart of oil. Monitor the oil level and keep it full. Check for leaks

It may be burning the oil from the valve guides. A loose intake guide/seal will allow the oil in to the combusion chamber and you won't notice the oil smoke.

You might also have a small hole or crack in the oil pick up line. Then a smaller amount low will allow air in - dropping pressure to zip.
