Hello all,

I was putting a new oil pressure guage on my 901 this afternoon. I purchased the guage and tubing from this site. There was a line that was pinched off and clearly the old tap for oil pressure. It is located between the hydaulic pump and motor, tight quarters. The tubing I purchased from this site does not have the correct fitting, has anyone else found this to be the case. The copper tubing supplied has female fittings on both ends. The piece I removed is a male fitting. They do supply a male/male nipple, but it is too large for my use. I hope to find a small nipple from Westlakes this week and get it hooked up.

On a better note, the temp guage I got from TSC slipped right in and was easily hooked up. I look forward to seeing what I get for temp and oil pressure. I hope the tach cable I got from here works better than the oil pressure lilne. Have a great day.

Chris

I'd let the air work itself out.

It costs over 50 bucks for the proper line at Ford (NH), but then maybe that woulda been cheap compared to the time and fuel you spent looking.

God bless!

I'll get the new guage hooked up for less than $20. I just hit a couple of stores over my lunch break and NAPA on my way home. I never put much value on my time or my tractor would be worth a fortune :D :D !!

I'd say what my rant really indicates is how good I've got it. If my biggest problem of the day is not finding the right part for my tractor, part work, part pleasure, then my life must be pretty good. Lovely wife, two wonderful sons and most importantly a God who not only tolerates me, but forgives me, even when I'm whining about a tractor.

Thanks Bob and everyone,

After visiting Carquest and NAPA, I was going the 1/8" copper line side with compression fitting at the guage. I am leaning towards reusing the old SAE?? fitting and flaring the copper line similar to the old steel. I know the copper is considerably softer, but if I don't get carried away, I should be ok. I didn't like the idea of splicing the line in the middle somewhere. The oil line they provide is likely thin to make it easy to shape, but when I inspected the sweat fittings on the end, the 1/16" or 3/32" copper line was virtually flattened in the brass fitting. There was less than a 1/16" for the oil. Probably would work fine, but I worried it may interefere with the guage (to much restriction).
Dumb question, do I just hook the new line up and go?? I assume the oil compresses the air and that registers on the guage? I wasn't sure if you wanted oil all the way to the guage or if it worked out that way over time, the air getting pushed out.
Thanks everyone. I'm still disappointed with the purchase, that tiny line and riduculous time waster of chasing a nearly impossible fitting. They shouldn't list it for the 971. Others may be able to walk right to the fitting, but the local Westlakes, Carquest, Autozone and NAPA only deal in NPT fitting, compression fittings and flare fittings. I didn't find anyone with a matching thread to the original part. Very near the 1/8" NPT, but the nut would only screw about one turn before locking up. Thanks for letting me vent. Moral of the story, you get what you pay for, if it seems to good to be true it probably is.

Just take your guage, new line and old fitting to a Napa or Carquest parts store. They will have a bin full of brass fitting's.They can supply with the correct ferulles, nuts and adapters to install the line and guage.Any store with the brass fitting supply can help you.

SECONDARY MARKET TACH CABLES SOMETIMES HAVE TOLORANCE PROBLEMS. FOR EAXMPLE THE ONE I BOUGHT WORKED OK IN THE TACK END BUT WOULD SLIP IN THE TRACTOR END. I HAD TO BRAZE A NODULE ON MINE AND USED A DREMMEL TO TOUCH IT UP. JUST SO YOU KNOW!

I just cut old line where i could get to it easy and attached compression fittings and adapters and it works fine.

I got the old fitting out OK, didn't have to remove the hydraulic pump. The original female fitting that is still on the tractor appears to be a 90 degree elbow that takes a male fitting for the oil line. I should have just enough room to get the new nipple in and hook up w/o removing the hydraulic pump. Thanks for your input.

By the way, the old steel line that was on my tractor was significantly larger diameter than the copper line provided. Did you find a compression fitting to fit each side or was your old line similar to the provided copper.

Ditto what Bob said. on my NAA, the prev owner had cut the oil press line about 1' from the hyd pump and just rolled it up and pinched / soldered the end.

I got a new gauge and a 1/8 to 1/8 brass compression union and a roll of 1/8 copper capilary line from the auto store.. straightened a section of the old steel oil line, and then cut the old line with a dremel cutoff wheel so as not to deform it.. then hit it with steel wool to polish it... the comp uninn went together nice and super snug and has never leaked a drop. I had bought that tractor cheap and ugly and not knoing for sure if it had oil pressure.. though the owner claimed it was fine... I got lucky..

Don't you just hate it when you buy something in good intensions and taking the word of the seller; only to find out that the after market junk he sells now cost as much as the correct part once you do all the leg work of getting the correct parts to make it work right.

While I did not do it; the previous owner must have replaced my elbow fitting because mine has a male end for the female line to fit on.

While it may be a lot more work; keep in mind that if you can not find a adapter you could always just change the elbow.

Thanks Larry,

Seems they shouldn't list it under parts for the 971 then, or at least provide a note that you will have to find an additional fitting. I am hopeful to find the flare/flare fitting local. Any suggestions on where the best bet may be. I will try Westlakes first and go from there.
