I am needing some help on tearing down the PTO shaft on my tractor. The PTO shaft turns constantly, and am I needing to fix it. Please help.

actually that could be simply a bad brake band.. This series has a brake band that goes around the pto clutch housing and when the pto is off the brake band is pulled tight to stop the shaft from turning. however a little wear and the band needed to be adjusted or replaced.

however there could be warped clutch plates or other reasons for the pto to spin..

with the pto turned off, carefully put a board up against the shaft. put pressure on the board and the shaft should slow down and stop..unless there is damage. if it stops then you have the typical out of adjustment brake on the pto. You adjust the brake band, replace the brake band or do like most everyone,, ignore it as it is just free wheeling or spinning due to the fluid in the the clutch area causing the two shafts to couple together a bit... You can also buy, for a small fee, a pto cap that covers the pto when not in use for additional safety..

however again if the clutch plates are warp due to heat, or there is damage to the springs then you will definatly need to pull the pto clutch and rebuild it. Load monitor systems may be more difficult to rebuild but the regular pto clutchs are really easy to rebuild. There is a support housing that holds the cluch and provides the oil feed to the clutch that will probably need to be replace with new sealing rings as well but it is surprisinly cheap as well.
