On a '59 641 the differential casting #'s are: 312480 92E. Would this number be for an 641 or 841, (or can you even tell)? Somethings been changed, and I'm trying to figure out if it's the engine or the transmission. Which ever the differential matches will tell me if I have a 641 or a 841. Thanks.

Engine # 310609 (I forgot this date code) Trans # 310865 8BX (I know this date code doesn't compute) Diff # 312480 92E

Another note..... .....
The 601 and 801 rear end are differant sizes.
Get one of these guys that knows the differance to tell us where to measure; then you can measure yours and we can compair it to our size.

You already know you have a 801 engine and a 601 trans.

The engine in my 1958 861 Diesel has the 310609 casting number. The differential has the 312480 casting number. Why do you think you have a 641? Is the transmission housing stamped 641? If so then your transmission came from a 641. The transmissions are the same whether they came from a 641 or 841. As you have learned the engines and rear axles were different between the 600-800 and 601-801 series. The transmissions were the same.

The transmission does have a 641 stamp. The questions I have are: Do I have a 641 that someone has changed the engine? Or,do I have an 841 that someone has changed the transmission?

I'm hoping to clear this up by matching the casting numbers.

(I sure am glad tractors are easier to figure out than women are)

I would have assumed that rear end # is for the 601 based on what my 801 has.

My Jan 1959 861 with parts that were cast in 1958 are as follows
engine 310609
trans 310837
rear end 310363

So have I been calling my tractor a 801 by mistake or have you. Or better yet are both these casting #'s for the 801.

Don't know, but I sure am having fun trying to find out.

(Some reason or another my wife is still huffy)

Measure the diameter of the axle trumpets. The 6xx is smaller than the 8xx. I can measure (or someone else can) the 801's and 601's.

(It's snowing and a bit nippy out and I don't want to get off my lazy butt!)

Attn: SOUNDGUY- your help is needed in reply to john_bud, 02-09-2008 09:43:45
Soundguy has both a 660 and a 850. If we can get his attention maybe he will measure the diameter of the rear ends for us.
