I have a 3600 3 cyl diesel and have to change the exhaust pipe which got kinked. I was wondering if I would get better power with a straight pipe with no muffler or should I stick with a stock muffler?

Ford's 3-cyl.'s aren't the quietest, even with a good muffler. Your ears will thank you to keep a muffler on it! Running without one almost guarantees hearing damage. I won't even buy the cheaper, round mufflers myself- I stick with the quieter oval type. Much cheaper than hearing aids. Ask my Dad....

I agree, keep the muffler and keep it as tall as possible, and wear hearing protection. The 3 cylinders especially seem to resonate right through your head (mine anyway). They aren't cheap, but they do make a difference.
