I think this may be the first time I have ever posted here with a question:

A good friend of mine swears up and down that he has a 600 without live hydraulics. He says that when you push the clutch in, the hydraulics quit working. I told him I didn't believe it, but he swears that he is not looking at an 8N. Anyone ever hear of a 600 without live hydraulics? I haven't. He says that his dad bought the thing new, and has not been modified.

He probably does not have a 600. Maybe a 9N or 8N.

I agree with the others.. the 600 had the pump mounted on the engine.. if he has a stock setup.. the hyds are live and he's just got rocks in his head.

now.. maybee he's thinking 'pto' and sayin' hyds.

I'm thinking he's thinking PTO instead of hydraulics like you said. Or else, as Rick B said, maybe it's a Dexta, something I hadn't thought of.

Thanks all for the comments. I'll try and sort this out further.

Does he by chance have an external PTO driven pump on it for some reason? That would quit working with the clutch pressed down.

Not sure how many Dextas and Super Dextas there are out there, but I'm thinking the pump is in the rear frame of those, and it's gonna stop with the PTO driveline. Otherwise, you're back to N's.

The N series was the last ones made with out live hyds. Starting with the Jubilee/NAA all the fords had live hyds.

I've never heard of one. What about the NAA?
I can't see a 600 without live hydraulics though.

The NAA is also live. In fact, that was one of the big selling points when it came out in '53.
