Good evening all,

Just wanted to let anyone interested know I went through the band adjustments on the SOS today. Didn't have any problems other than the normal little things not going quite as planned. The tractor will still roll a short distance in Park, but does catch as it is supposed to.

My fan belt was turning over on me even after I took it off and re-installed it. It broke while I was nearing the end of the band adjustment procedure. My new temp gauge worked well as it went up to almost 220 after the belt broke. My new charge indicator light worked as it should as well. I did get the drive bladed some while getting the tranny to operating temp prior to adjustment. Tractor ran well and I got the drive straightened out some. After replacing the fan belt, I'm going to concentrate on getting some weights on the front, will have to fab a bracket to the weights I'm getting.

Chris

P.S. SOS transmissions were not available in 800 series tractors. If you have such a beast someone has cobbled it up. My guess is you have ab 801 series.

1st off, it's a Select-O-Speed. A Selectpmatic is a David Brown or some such. Secondly, operation in Reverse but not forward indicates a broken mainshaft.

Thanks Tony for the advice and Larry for the kind words,

If it weren't for guys like you, those of us with less experience wouldn't have much chance. By sharing your time and knowledge and encouragement, fellas like me can work through the basics. Thanks again. :D :D
This was the first real test on the repaired proofmeter as well. Only logged six tenths of an hour, but it worked fine. I'm really looking forward to running the brush hog this spring and getting some seat time. 8)

Hello Chris , Since your tractor still rolls a bit before it locks up it Park , the valves in the valve body may be varnished up from age and dirty oil over the years . Just before you shift the tractor into Park after using it shift to 10th gear quickly then directing to Park to drain the servos it should lock in Park within seconds . If that cures the problem just do that everytime , sooner or later the varnish will wear off , especially if you do not want to take the valve body apart and polish the valves . Keep in mind the old adage " If it ain't broke don't fix it " It is possible to get a little dirt or gasket material in the trans. and end up with more problems then when you started . Thanks Tony Jacobs
