I bought a 951 Saturday that is missing the hood/grille assembly. The doglegs on my 861 are rotted where they bolt to the tractor at the bottom. I know where there is some good sheet metal for the 861. Can I take my current 861 sheet metal and cut off the lower portion of each dogleg and make it fit the 951? Is that how Ford did it or is the 951 dogleg a unique part?

Maybe, AW but you will still need the cast aluminum adapter brackets that connect the doglegs to the bolster.

Here's photos of the 851D and the 951G that sold at auction for $1500 and $700 respectively. Both tractors run.

Awtx,
I've got the opposite problem from you. I have some tin that I think is off a 900 series that would fit on the bottom tractor, and I need tin for a 631. I don't know if the 861 is the same as a 631, but they sure look the same except for the very bottom and the grill. It looks like there's an extra piece on that one the 600 series doesn't have. Maybe someone could shed some light on that. GOOLLLY that would sure look good on mine. Before I get too wound up, I should explain that my tin has a wavy place on the right side of the hood and some putty under where the headlight bolts on. That the way I got it. I haven't had a chance to see what's under there but the inside of the hood isn't rusted, so I don't know whats going on there. I'm sure I could remedy what's ailing it. The rest is really nice. I has the aluminum pieces on the bottom, also.
Trade??
