I looked at my dash, and I have amp, temp, oil pressure. I also have a red light that is not hooked up. I would like to hook the fuel gauge back up and get it working, but dont know which gauge to give up. I suppose back when it was built, the red light would lite up when it was not?, charging? The tractor has been converted to 12 volts, was wondering how I could utilize the red light as charging, and then use the 2 inch hole for my fuel gauge? What are some opinions?
Thank You,
BZ

Yep.. like Rick ( and others )said.. wire the lamp to the #1 terminal on the alternator if it is a delco 10/12 SI model.. then loose the amp gauge and stick the fuel gauge there..

I just installed a charging light on my 971 and personally prefer the light to an ammeter, though there are arguments for both sides. My fuel guage is not functioning and I hope to fix it in the future. A new guage is not too bad, but if the sending unit needs replaced, it's a little more spendy from most places. It does seem I found it for around $60 (about 1/2 of most sites) somewhere, but I would have to check my favs to see if I could find it. I haven't spent much time on it, but I did beat on the sending unit some, trying to spin it in the tank to remove it. No luck at all and I had other fish to fry. Best of luck and keep us posted.

if they had a red light from the factory, they didn't have a factory ammeter.

Wire the lamp into the alternator's excitation circuit (field) and the lamp will work as designed.
