I just posted a picture of a 60's Ford combine. Wonder if it's good for anything except partsing out?

I hope so too. I've been trying to figure out how I could do it, but it's over 330 miles from me. My brother and an uncle are close enough I could probably get one of them to go bid for me, but trucking would be a deal-killer. Assuming it's ready to work, I'd still have too much in it for it's age and size by the time I got it hauled that far.

I know where there's an old Ford combine that was never sold and is supposed to have only 7 actual hours on it. Not sure the model. It pretty rusty lookin tho.

Hmmm.... Minnesota... Where? If not too far away, I may be interested. What head(s) are with it? Gas or diesel? Looks like a pickup head in the corner of the pic, and looks like a straw chopper on the back, too. I know of a 642 in MN that I've been trying to come up with the cash to buy for 2 years (hope it hasn't been scrapped!), but just hasn't happened yet. There was a guy who posted about a 620 and 630 at his grandparent's place near New Ulm, scrap price, but I waited and thought too long...620 is scrap and 630 may be by now. Part of the problem is transporting them, another part is I don't NEED another combine, but it would be nice. At least this one has a cab - the worn-out 620 I had was open.

Ford farmer, I don't know what your looking for. But there's a ford self perpelled combine sitting about 8 miles west of Guthrie Center Iowa on Highway 44.

I'd like to have a second combine, preferably Ford powered. Since I can't tell my wife I NEED it, it's gotta be cheap. The 642 would be my first choice of the Ford/Claas combines, but I'd consider a 622, 630, or 640 too- just depends on condition, distance, heads, and price. Guthrie Center is something like 420 miles from me... almost no way to get it here and stay within budget with trucking as high as it is.

It's being auctioned on Friday, at Barnesville, MN. I believe it is a 1962 vintage because it uses the 175 gas engine, as used on 4000 4cyl tractors. It's 40 miles from me, but I don't have the ambition to do anything with it. Doubtful that anyone else around here would. Some valuable parts for projects. The big salvage buyer is only 5 miles up the road, and it's just a few miles from the Rollag threshing club.

I stand corrected. After comparing my picture with the book, I agree that it is a 5000 engine.

Not to argue, but... the 4-cyl 4000's had a 172 c.i. engine (as did the 800, 900, 801, and 901- I've owned 5 of them), which would be underpowered for a s.p. combine like this. 172 might make 60 h.p. at the flywheel; 256 should be 75+ at the flywheel. I think the older and smaller Ford 611/Oliver 25 did use the 172 (or maybe industrial 192?). The 620 (older version of this combine- I owned one of them a few years ago, too) had a 256 gas, and I've been told by other Ford/Claas owners that the 622 had the option of either a gas or diesel 256. The engine pic you sent me (thanks for sending them- I appreciate that) clearly shows a post-'65 engine - intake manifold above the distributor. Pre-'65 all had both intake and exhaust on the other side. I'm pretty sure the numbers in the 3rd pic mean it was the 443rd model 622, and was assembled in January of '75. The faded white number on the lower corner of the cab should also be 443. I can't quite tell in the picture. I can tell from zooming in on the picture that the feederhouse chain is gone. If it was within 75 miles or so, I'd go bid on it, but knowing it needs some work, and at the distance it is... I'm going to have to forget about it. Thanks for posting about it.

I wasn't sure if that was a 620 or 622 until I looked in imp. photos and saw your caption. I've never actually seen a 622, and only a handful of 620's. I don't remember the exact dates, but I think 622's were built from something like '72-'74. Because there are so few, there isn't much demand for parts (except the engine, which fits in Ford 5000's). I know of a parts 620 (engine has been sold)- call (715) 532-6854 if you want something from it. I'd vote for keeping this one intact.

What claas combine model/number was the Ford 622? How about the claas combine models/numbers to the Ford: 620, 630, and 640 self-propelled combines? Wasn't the Ford 611 an oliver 25? Wasn't there a nother self-propelled combine before the Ford 611? A 14-1 or something like that? Was that made by Oliver too? I wonder what model of Oliver?

Thanks.

Not sure about this one, but I think the 630 was based on the Claas Senator 70. That's the one with the passenger seat. My dad ran a few of those back in UK in the early 70s before going to the Dominator's.
Claas get a bit confusing here, depending on the year, some are blue with Ford name, some are red and badged as MF, and some are original Claas in green. Now they are yellow and called Caterpillar.

Don't know what model of 'Ford' combine that is pictured below, but it looks like a Claas Consil combine. There is a Claas Dominator 106 combine local to me that was brought over from Canada that has blue paint showing through the (resprayed) green.

It is a Claas Consil- just the American version, which was painted blue, powered by a Ford 256, and sold by Ford dealers as the 622. Earlier ones without the quick tach heads were 620's.

I agree with the rest--- preserving 'The American Heritage'--- This looks to be in over average condition. I'm not into 'Blue', however, 'Blue' isn't that bad of a color when the history is at stake." My 1 cents worth ". Thanks y'all, Ed

I would keep it in tact, just because you don't see too many of them around. IF I had extra $$$$ I would even consider getting engine and trans in good running order and then a paint job. But that is just what I would do. Unfortunately you would have to keep it inside or under something to preserve it. It would just be nice to see some history like this preserved. Just my .02
