Good evening friends,

The fella I was hoping to get some cheap weights from called around and wants almost a $1/pound. I'm not going to pay that for something I'll have to cobble on my tractor. I've decided I might as well just put the old trip loader back on and let that be my weight. I'm sure I'll use it as well, so it only makes sense.

I've got both of the SA cylinders sliding by hand and hoses off. They have set for years and one had some water in it. I don't know the terminoligy, but the end that bolts together to hold the cylinder in comes apart easilly. Bolts were just over finger tight and back right out. Cylinder still didn't come out, is it just a seal that is holding it in now? I'm sure I can find new seals and clean things up but will that be good enough? I have some rust on my cylinders, can I use a fine emory cloth (120) to shine things up? I will check with a local hydraulic shop, but I tend to hate paying for something like that if I can tackle it myself. Thanks for any suggestions. Don't have much info on the cylinders, but they are on an old Freeman loader.

Chris

Thanks Keith,

I didn't look at the NH site because I am confident these are after market cylinders. I will however take a look through the hole where the hose connects and see what I can see. Thanks for the suggestion.

Chris

I had the same type of cylinders on a combine. There is a snap ring on the end of the rod that holds it in. You can snap the ring off and on through the hole that the hydraulic hose goes in. Sounds hard but you just have to hold your tong just right. LOL!
Look at the parts layout of the cyl on the NH site. The ring is # 8.

what kind of cylinders? if they are the old style, one way rams, can use old womens nylons for packing. wrap a length around the rod and tighten packing nut. will last longer with rust pits than regulator cylinder packs.

Thanks Soundguy,

I don't think there is any significant pitting, however, one cylinder was extended maybe an inch or 1-1/2 inches. This part of the shaft is very rusty.

If I got new cylinders I would likely go with DA and they get pretty pricey. Thanks again,

Chris

for light 'flash' rust on a chromed cyl rod.. I'd use steel wool... pitting will stay.. but the orange stuff will be off.

if the chrome is flaking or piston badly pitted.. it will be a seal eating monster..
