I have a 1952 ford 8n, After putting on wheel weights. I decided to move a little snow around my yard. I let the tractor warm up for about 10 min. It ran fine. I scooped up the first scoop of snow and dumped it. I scooped up the second scoop of snow and started to go forward to dump it when the tractor instantly started to run as if it had no power. Like running on 2 or 3 cylinders only. If you open the throttle it will gain speed but will take a long time to build up speed. The tractor will start and sounds like it is running on 2 or 3 cylinders only. If you try to move in forward in any gear if barely will move. I will check the timing today. to see if somehow it might of jumped time. The only other thing that I have noticed is the distributor seems to be slightly moving up and down. I would appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

The problem has been solved. After checking the wiring, timing, points and a few other things. I replaced the distributer cap. I did not like the way it looked. I was how wore the cap was. And low and behold. I started up the tractor and after adjusting the timing a little bit. It runs beautiful. I will be replacing the spark plug wires tomorrow. They are o.k., but a new set will be a great help. I want to thank all you guy's for all your suggestions. It was a great help. Thanks once again.

Well you might have a cap that is getting wet and or cracked and being wet will cause that. Carb iceing will also cause problems. What happens if you try to choke it?? If it runs better choked its probably carb icing and thats just a fact of life and you can open up the main jet just a little to help that. But I would almost bet its a problem with the cap getting wet, and or needing to be replaced

If you think it's only running on 2-3 cyls.. don't guess. check it out.. pull a wire at a time and see if it makes a difference.. if so.. replace and move to the next.

Does it get better after it sets and warms up in a nice garage.. if so, check for carb icing.

DO check out to see if the distrib is moving!

Post this in the 8N/9N/2N forum. you will get much better results over there and probably a higher volume of responses.
