I posted this on the 8n board but could see no harm in posting here too. I formerly posted a lot over there but lost touch after major surgery.

Last weekend I stole an 841 at an auction. It has calcium chloride in the rears and wheel weights on the front neither of which I need or want.

To get the cacl out of the rears I am guessing to jack up each individually; pull the valve cores; rotate the stems to the bottom and catch it since it is nasty stuff.

Will that work or what else should I do? Sorry for the long post and regards to SouNdguy

Got a gravel driveway or road? Head the tractor across the driveway with the stems down, and pull the valves out.... You won't have any dust on the driveway for a while and you won't have any traction until you put the CaCl back in the tires.

Too bad you're not a several hundred miles closer... I'd buy the front wheel weights if you were. Although... I do have a cousin who is dating a girl from MT... doubt that she'd like to bring wheel weights back to college with her after her spring break though!

Howdy.

I've taken small gas line and slippe dover a valve core to allow it to drain into a bucket.. I put the vs at the bottom, and didn't even jack the tire up.. just let gravity help.

Hard to get it all out.. but if you can find some real small OD tubing. like capilary line, you can slip it down the valve core hole, jack the tire up and then use some chewing gum or something to kinda seal it, and then lower the jack.. you can get a lil more out.. etc..

It if where me I would leave in there till you get a flat. Yes the stuff is nasty but it will also kill grass and can be drained right on a road etc. to control grass etc from growing and if not e legal to do so. Not that said drop me an e-mail and I can send you a page that tells how to put it in but if you do it backwards it will also work for removing it

I never have any problem with compaction and I use my 841 with loader in my pasture all the time. As far as your e-mail open I can't add the page that way you have to send me one first for me to send you the page. Its from a 1935 JD-B owners manual and shows 3 or 4 ways to fill/drain a tube

That will work, I have done that step on a tire with a sliced sidewall. Don't stop there. Once the fluid is pretty much drained, remove the tire, clean any rust off the rim, rust-protect the rim, repaint it, then reinstall the tire with a brand new tube.

Why would you not want the extra weight in the tractor? I would change the valve stems and leave the weight in, but that is just me... Good luck.

Thank you for the early reply. I use my 8n"s for custom farming--at least that is what I tell the IRS--and compaction is an issue in horse pastures and arenas.

I tried the 841 with a spring tooth in an arena that was admittedly a little sloppy and had to go back with an 8n due to compaction.

Previous owner replaced the rims in the not too distant past so that is not an issue.

That makes sense. I hadn't thought of compaction. The ground I own is so rocky that the extra weight doesn't make much difference. Plus I'm ususally trying to use the tractor for more than it was intended... the weight helps that out a bunch.
