Is there a kit for rebuilding the injection pumps for the old four cylinder deisels or a good reasonable place to send them to be rebuilt?

yep should come in kit. I doubt if this is your white smoke issue though.

the original governor retaining ring is plastic.

the updated is not and should never fail and cause the pump to act up again.

Not to hijack a topic, But could you tell me if the governor retaining ring comes in the kit or is it extra. I bought a kit from the guy on e-bay(took his number down and called him) but I didn't know to ask him until after looking back through archives before I tear down my pump. mine doesn't act up, just a lot of white smoke at startup that goes away after a while and she leaks a lot around the g shaft. thanks, Kent

injection pump; Me Too in reply to Kents671DKS, 03-24-2008 07:16:17
Mine, early 4 cyl 4000 diesel with the DB Stanadyne pump, smokes on start up and then clears up also. Ran some Stanadyne fuel treatment through it and seemed to help while it's in there but when it's gone, back to old smokey. My pump also has the touchy throttle problem where there's not much movement from idle to full rpm's. Would orings kit help me? I was thinkin' maybe injectors maybe needing service, but what a PITA to get to them. There's a web Company called Real Diesel that's supposed to only charge $250 a pump to rebuild, but they are not accepting anymore pumps according to there site. Anyone have experience with them?

Yep depends on what's wrong with them. Mostly it's a disentegrated governor retainer ring. You can buy the kit from any diesel shop for less than 40 dollars that'll fix this. If you want to update to the new style governor, add 60 dollars or so.

Two questions,
1. Ain"t the governor retaining ring plastic
2. What will the new type governor do for me?
Thanks for your help. I've learned a lot just reading everyones posts.

If you find either a kit or someone to rebuild reasonably let me know. Mine is acting like a spoiled brat.
