ZANE said: (quoted from post at 20:06:50 03/30/08) On the NAA and hundred series tractors the lift is not directly actuated by the control valve. The control valve initiates the action but it is the unloading valve that actually raises and or lowers the lift arms.

I think your unoading valve is sticking partially in the middle of it travel.

The NAA origianlly had an all metal unloading valve and that was supposed to have been recalled way back in 53 but some got through without the modifiction. The modification is just like the ones on the Hundred series tractors and has an O ring on the unloading valve piston that makes it a lot more responsive. Do not try to substitute any O ring other than the Ford NCA 835 B or it's equivelant found in an aftermarket gasket kit.

The lift cover must be removed to access the unloading valve. Find out the proper procedure before you attempt to remove the NAA lift cover.

The only thing I can think of that could cause your problem and that could be fixed without removing the top cover, is the control lever itself, and I assume you have looked that over already. I have never seen it happen, but if the keyway has broken out of the lift control plate, the lever could be travelling further in the up direction than the down.

does the lift drop any faster if there is more weight on it? Since the down travel is not pressurized, gravity is what governs speed. Could be that some gunk has gotten into the cylinder and is blocking the outflow. I tore one down last summer that had been worked on and put back together with RTV gasket maker. That crap was in everything, and nothing could move.

It started about three weeks ago....and has progressed to the point of taking 30-45 seconds to return to full down....I've owned the tractor for almost five years. A real work horse.

Has this been going on for a while or are you the new owner of this fine machine, with no knowledge of past performance? My best uneducated guess is a linkage adjustment is in order.
