Tractor wouldnt start, was getting fire, but no gas. Checked the sediment bowl. it was full of grit. Ended up taking hood off, and pulled the gas tank, unscrewed the drain plug and tilted it up, sounded like it had a couple pounds of gravel and sand inside. after I got most of it drained out, my bucket was brown gas. I tried to remove the sending unit, and it is frozen in time. I tilted tank back and forth and it sounds very bad inside, and have accepted the fact I would like to replace the whole tank. In my searching, I cannot find a metal replacement tank that will accept a fuel sending unit. I would really like to keep this feature. Sorry about the long post. Any help? Thanks!
BZ

Thank you for all the comments, I guess first I will see what a radiator shop can do with it. It would surprise me. I may give Les in VA a call also.
Thank You!

BZ:

I'd take JB's advice and have your tank cleaned and sealed if necessary. A good radiator shop can do this for you if you do not want to do it yourself.

You should be able to loosen the sending unit locking ring with a punch and small hammer. I've never seen one that wouldnt come loose.

601/801 are different sized tanks. If BZ isn't interested, I'd like see some pictures. I have a 2000 (same as 601) in the works. My email is always open in the modern view of this forum. Thanks

The tanks are sized differently, but the 601 tank will bolt into a 801 without modification.

As an option, they make some good sealer kits that will seal the inside of you tank.

You can actually coat it and make it about like new.

Creem is one product, but there are others. They work between excellent and horrible, depending on how well you clean them out inside and how closely you follow the directions.

You can also have it done by some radiator shops. The yellow pages can be your pal there.

Kit's are about $50 and having it done is about $200.
