Davis loader bleeds down

I have a Davis 102 A loader on a 851 Ford. The bucket will not stay up or level. After a few minutes, the bucket is on the ground or if I keep lifting the bucket, it will gradually roll into full dump position. A load in the bucket will make it come down fast. I think the problem is leaky cylinders or leaky control valve. The control valve is easier to work on so that is what I will work on first. Are there serviceable parts in the control valve? If I remove the plate off of the bottom and disconnect the handles, will the spools come out the bottom?

Thanks

You are guessing.. you might as well use the magic 8 ball.. lift a load in the bucket, block it up with a jack/timber, remove the line from the hyd cyl, screw a plug in, lower the jack.. if the bucket leaks down.. it is cylinder seals bypassing... if not.. look at the valve... this cuts out the guessing and lets you actually work on the real problem.

Some people just feel more comfortable jumping right into a task to start 'fixin' it, instead of diagnosing the problem first.

I've seen 250$ 12v conversions that were down when a genny polarazation was all that was needed..

People like to fix things.. but for some reason.. not so many of them like to find out what needs fixin first. That's why i refered tot he magic 8-ball. (wink)

Great answer, soundguy!!!! Always find the root cause first. It"s cheaper than swapping out parts and stumbling on the fix( Method of Stumbelonious). And you"ll know what real cause was.

Yep.

Going into a problem and just changing all the parts in a particular system is what I call 'shotgun' debugging'. Sure.. you eventurally 'hit' the problem.. but may spend more and take more time doing it that way. AND.. unles sthe problem is blatent.. you may not actually know what happened.
