Hy everyone, I just bought the IT shop manual for my 63 4000, FO-20 and it is kind of thin on info in certain areas. Called my local dealer about ordering a Ford shop manual and he told me it was about $59.00. My question is how much better is the Ford manual than the IT? I figured some of you might have both so I could find out if it was worth having before I bought it. Thanks Greg NE

Are the ford manuals still available from ford? Are they year specific? I have a ford 4000 4 cyl industrial diesel, but dont know the year as the SOS transmission was replaced with another transmission, and the transmissions have all the ID information. My best guess is 1963 or 1964.

John, Don't know for sure yet but my local dealer claims they can order one, they are supposed to be ordering one for me now. The 4 cylinder 4000's were only built in late 62 to early 65 and as far as I know there are not too many differences in them. I will post when I find out what I get for a manual. Greg NE

Thanks everyone, I thought the Ford manual was probably better but I figured getting a couple of second and third opinions would not hurt. I guess I will be calling my dealer to order one. Thanks again Greg NE

Another vote for the ford manual. I have a 64 4000 and the ford manual is much better. It has the the select-o-speed service manual supplement in the front of the manual. It also has operating principles and other writeups, not just the remove/replace info.

I also own both manuals but the original Ford is a major difference. The pictures that are in the I&T manual typically are a subset of the pictures from the Ford Manual. How do you compare a manual that is a 1/4 of an inch to 4-5 inches of manual from Ford. I also have the parts manual and it is a handy thing sometimes for the exploded drawings.
