Did the 1920 ever come with a turbo on it? Is there a kit that would allow for a turbo to be put on the 1920?

The 1920 never had a turbo. It can be done though if you're creative enough. Anything can be done....
For what it's worth, that family of ISM engines have been turbocharged. They use a small jap turbo with a wastegate. I've never seen a 3 cylinder done, but I have an N844T which is a similar 4 cylinder. It has different pistons and rings than the N844 N/A engine, and probably a few other things. That said, I think you'll be stretching the limits by giving that thing much boost. They build them pretty light anyway, so I doubt it has much to give without a negative effect on engine life....
If you do go ahead with it I'd keep the pressure wound down fairly low (let the wastegate open) and don't give it too much more fuel.
It would probably be cheaper and easier to just get a bigger tractor.

No factory turbo.

You can add one pretty easy. Stay at low boost of 5-7 psi, add a pyro and maybe have the injection pump turned up some.

The engine is plenty strong for that level of boost, but extra maintenance and caution are needed with any turbo engine, more so with add ons.

is there a specific turbo that has worked well or is there a retrofit kit for a specific model of turbo?
thanks

Parts and pieces from a LX665 skid loader should bolt right on the 1920 engine.

I've only seen ones that were home made, typically by guys with a buddy at a muffler shop for the pipe bending. Never built one up - so sorry, no direct personal experience. The better ones have been with 304 stainless and were tig'ed up nice.

You'll have to do some investigation on turbo size for your displacement and rpm. And don't forget the wastegate!

I have never seen a turbo on a 1920 and I would be concerned that the components are not capable of handling the extra power from a turbo engine on one of those.
