Been looking for a compact tractor for work around our 4 acre lot. Came across a Ford 3600 with a mower deck, post hole digger and front bucket. What are the highs and lows of this unit. Price is about a third of what I see most compact tractor setups go for; just wondering if I am looking at a dead end/maintenance headache or is this an OK light duty tractor. Any thoughts would be appreciated (going out to see it tonight).

Regards,

- Detlef

Thanks guys, for the tips. Saw the unit tonight; very nice shape. It was, however, missing a loader, something I am looking for. What does it take to add a loader? OK, money; but what are we looking at? Any welding? Hydraulic power unit?

Looks like a good machine; but without the loader it does look like more of a project machine than I would like.

Thanks again to all for the replies.

Regards,

- Detlef

I have a 78 3600 with cab and loader. Great tractor. See link below. On the 3600 you will need to buy a tapping manifold $75 that will go under the plate in front of the seat. Then bolt on the loader frame. Plumb in the hoses from the tapping manifold to the powerbeyond port of the loader spool valve and start using. The onboard hydraulics are 9 GPM. Plenty of flow to use a newer loader with. The OLD ford loaders were slow with these pumps. But if you buy a newer quick attach loader if will be fast enough.

I have a 3600 of about the same year.I think it is a great tractor. They are about 42 hp and should have all the power you would ever need on a lot that size.Mine is a gas engine and has no problems at all warming up.

This is a great heavy (not light duty ) tractor, the only bad points are don't overload the bucket, gas engine models were not as desireable because you must keep the choke out until they warmed up or they sputter, it cost's less because it's a larger tractor thats harder to get around objects than a compact, and most compacts are 4WD.
