My 73 4000 has 900X10 tires on the front end.
Why I don't know, other than it probably was used as an orchard tractor. The exhaust has been moved from a straight up pipe to a low under the tractor pipe.
The rear tire were changed at the same time as they are on a 24 inch rim and I think 13 inch. I would have to go out to the tractor and check for sure.

At $171 for each front tire 900X10 inch 10 ply, I am considering changing to a more conventional size tire.
Do you guys have any ideas what the cost of rims and tires would be? What size tire came on this tractor?

The other option is go ahead and pay the 171$. I would never have to buy any more tires for the tractor in my life time.

You can buy a pair of new 7 X 16 rims for under $125. Gives you the right rim for an inexhaustable supply of used 3/4 ton pickup tires for free or cheap. Buy valve stems and you can run them tubeless.

I really like these big wide fat tires I just don't like the price. It seems the tires at present are working well with the loader. I guess what I will do is use the present tires untill they blow out than make the decision to get different sized tires or bite the bullet and pay the $$.

Thanks for the feed back.

or contact gensco tire and get thorn proof aircraft tires on rims ready to go for about 128 ea. This are 28 ply tires and are shipped ready to bolt on with new rims for the price. they have smooth tread, 3 rib tread, mud grip tread as well. This tires are great where you have thorns and lots of flats and the price is great.

They have narrow, wide, 600 equivlents, 7.50 1000, 1100x16 equivilents plus floatation tires.
1-800-noflats is thier number or look them up on the web.. I've been using them for about 20 years with great results in the mequite thorn areas.. about every 2 years i have to add a little air as they will start to squat a bit with a heavy load on the frontend loader.. so i air them back up to 40lbs and i'm good for another 2 years or so. The tires are so heavy that they will run for years with no air unless you load them a bit.

if you dont have thorns or rough use then go with regular tires and rims...You can save a bit on shipping.

Better floatation on wet ground and better support with a loader or forklift are the reasons to convert to a wider tire. If you don't use a loader and work on hard ground a smaller tire would be fine.

I run 7.5x16 tires on my tractors. Figure $80 each for a 4 ply generic tire, $15 for a tube, and another $75 for a new replacement rim. The tire and tube come from TSC; not sure on the rim.

I recently put a pair of 6.50-16 on the front of my 4600. I paid $120 including shipping for 2 brand new tires with tubes from Tucker Tire, at my door in a week. I am very happy with them. Even if you bought new rims from TSC, you would be cheaper than the pair of new 10" tires. I expect you can find used rims for a 4000 pretty easy and like other have said, cruise the net and you will find something useful. Watch out for shipping costs, but many sites are pretty reasonable or free it you look for them.
