These old ford tractors are so popular there is a demand for parts & thus plenty of parts are available for them. New & used parts are plentiful. Your Case New Holland (CNH) dealer should have lots on hand, this website also has 'em, Ebay also. Plus lots of others I neglected to mention. Also salvage yards. So don't worry too much about parts, if you need 'em they should be able to be found.

i have put more time on the tractor in 3 wks than i put on the bike in 3 years. what would be the chances of finding parts to put it back original...would this be a lost cause? it works fine but at some point, parts will wear out and have to be replaced.

Yes it's possible. What I see is an 801 series tractor with diesel engine. But the model number and serial number stamped on the transmission say it's a 900 series from 1955 or 1956. The diesel engine was not even an option until 1958.

The likely scenario is this: the tractor was originally an 871-D or 881-D (diesel engine, Select-O-Speed trans). Somewhere along the way, the SOS tranny crapped out and the owner swapped in a 5 speed tranny from a junkyard 900 tractor. Therefore the tractor inherited the junkyard tractor's serial and model numbers.

Oh, and the fenders look like 8N/NAA units. If the tractor works and is more useful to you than the motorcycle was, then none of the above matters much. It looks like it should do the job.

OK, you've answered your question. The tractor was originally an S-O-S model and somebody replaced the S-O-S trans with a 5 speed out of an older 950. Ford switched from using hood decals with the specific model number (871 or 881) to the generic model number (801) some time in 1960 if I recall correctly. You should be able to find casting date codes from 1960, 61 or 62 on your block, hydraulic/rear end, lift cover and axle trumpets.

Steamn;

Here's John in La' photo bucket site which has the date codes. It will at least help determine when the major components were made.

I"m guessing this was originally a SOS tractor. What do you think.

Steamn; Okay, it says 950. Based on what I see in the photos it appears that you have a tractor that may have had the transmission and fenders swapped. To narrow down what you have you will need to go to the casting and date codes.

The engine and hood assembly are definately 1958 or later, because that is when diesels came out and that is the 58 or later sheetmetal. The trans is from 1956 based on the serial number(if I read it right)and it is from a 950. The "9" indicates it was a high clearance row crop tractor; the "5" indicates it was a five speed with 3 point and non-live PTO; The "0" indicates it is from the hundred series which were made between 1955 and 1957. The fenders, based on the photo, appear to be from 1955 hundred series as that is the only year they made that particular mounting bracket. Unless they are earlier, more pics would help.

I would by a Ford Shop Manual that covers from 1955 to 1960 and a Master Parts Catalog for the same years. They sell them on E-bay or this site.

John in La has a site that shows photos of the casting and date codes. I don't have that information. If you do a search of the archives for casting ccodes or date codes you'll be able to find it. I'd look for you, but I have to leave for awhile. Have fun.

yep, probably a '58 or newer with a tranny and some sheet metal swapped. I think the fenders are actually '54 or older.. don't look like they have enough curve to them to be the '55 style. If you're wanting a "correct", restored tractor, they'd have to go... on a worker, they're fine.

Hey, Fordfarmer is right. I think I see the raised ridge that runs horizontally across the center of the fender and He's right they aren't as deep.

Hey Steamn; Nice looking tractor. Is this a brain teaser? The model number looks like "850" and the serial # looks to be 86901 which make it a 1956 850. The fenders appear to be from 1955 (has the band over the top.) And, the grill is off an 801. How many tractors did you use to put this together? lol Wonder what else we could find if we looked real hard?

Oop, looked again, it's a deisel which came out in 1958. So someone swapped engines or the tranny? Who know what else.
