Hey JOHN IN LA.. Americansoldier again. I should have left well enough ALONE, but I just can't help it. Once I replaced the points and condensor after installing your kit, she fired right up!!! Awesome, I even got my headlights wired and are working now. I NOW have a 12 Volt Tractor, I have been box blading and bush hoggin like a mad man!!! Thanks!!! However, my original ammeter wasn't hooked up so I by passed it when I wired it. Now that all is working I decided to purchase a VOLT METER (at the advice of a good friend) and I installed it last night. EXACTLY to the diagram, (without the orange wire, by the way, ha), (voltmeter starts at 10 and goes to 16, I think)the gauge is on 10 in the off position, but when I start tractor the gauge bearly drops below the 10 mark and stays there until I turn tractor off.
HERE IS MY QUESTION(s) finally, I know.... What do I do now. The tractor has been starting and running for about a week now, with NO problems. Is it discharging? Should I check voltmeter somehow before I start tractor (or before I installed it?) Should I try and see if my original AMMETER works (that shows -30....0....+30)? Please enlighten me wise one. Thanks.

If your volt gauge is reading 10 with the key off I have to think you have it wired wrong.

Soundguy has already explained how the 2 gauges are hooked up so I will just show you a diagram that has the gauges in it so you can relate your gauge wires to a picture.

soundguy thanks!!! It worked!!! I wired it exactly as you stated and it shows 12 volts when Key is turned to ON position and about 14 volts once tractor is running!!!

Thanks for all the help from you and JOHN IN LA.

Bottom line, ammeter should go inline from charge source to battery.. all electrical loads should be on the side of the ammeter where the charge source is. the other side of the ammeter ONLY hooks tot he battery.. or the hot side of the start switch/solenoid. This preserves the net charge/discharge relationship.

Voltmeters go ACROSS a connection. for instance.. one side of voltmeter to chassie, the other side to the wire on the key switch going to the ignition coil. Thus when you turn the key on you should get a static battery reading, then when started, volts should climb from 12ish to 14ish.. etc.
