Oil in the exhaust

I have a friend who just bought a Ford 3000 with the three cylinder diesel. When he was running it the other day, it was leaking crankcase oil out of the exhaust. He noticed it around where the muffler goes into the manifold. Any ideas about what may cause this? And, any ideas about how to fix it.

Thanks in advance, Dave

if you been running alot in cold weather and never really warmed up but using it a little everyday it will slobber diesel out the exhaustand if it burns a litttle crankcase oil too mixed it will look like all crankcase oil, so everybody is right work your tractor a bit it , it will clean up.

I'm with the other guys. Some diesels wet stack or slobber. If you baby them.. they slobber worse.

throw a large 2 or small 3 bottom plow on it and plow till YOU are tired.. then check out the 'oil leak' again.

Dave:

I agree with Rod and Old. I doubt that there is anything wrong with it. It has probably been babied for awhile, and will probably clear itself up if he works it hard for awhile.

It could be the result of running too cool for a period of time, so as old says, work it hard for a while and it should dry up.
The other possibility, not unknown to Fords is that the valve guides are rather worn and now leak some oil. This is more noticable on startup. Regardless, run it hard for a while and get it hot. The oil should burn off too. I often notice that mine will slobber like that for a day or so after sitting all winter. A good day on the plow clears them up. It's nothing to worry about really.

Is it really oil or is it un-burned fuel. If he doesn't work it hard a diesel will do just that. Diesel need to be worked hard and long or they will start spitting like that.
