Well, I took advantage of the sun yesterday and got the oil changed in my 4000, when it was draining, I notice Diesel n the oil.

Anybudy have any ideas on how fuel is leaking in to the oil?

The tractor needs an overhaul to if it helps.

Does your tractor have a fuel pump to provide pressure to the injection pump?
If it does it is common for these to fail and dump small, or large amounts of fuel into the crankcase. (About $50.00 to replace).
Be tractor safe

You can check for the return line leakage by taking off the rocker arm cover (it does come off, but it is tight!) and inspecting the line that goes from each injector to a down line in the head. They crack around the solder joins especially by the inmjector.

My guess is that you simply idled too much. If that is so you may have been seeing some black slimy fluid come out the muffler or exhaust manifold to head joint. It would be sort of expected on a tractor with a weak engine as they wouldn't burn as well.

The other is the 2 umbrella seals and one O-ring on the pump drive shaft that goes inside the pump from the bottom. You have to pull the pump to change them. Nothing too tricky there, you just have to set time before pulling the pump (23 degrees before TDC) and be careful to not pinch or roll the first umbrella seal as it is intalled.

Lotsa ways, depending on how much ya got in there, and if this is a 4cyl or a 3 cyl diesel.

Lotsa idling will allow the fuel to get to the oil.

bad shaft seals in the injector pump can let the fuel get in the oil.

bad return line on the 4cyl can allow fuel to get to the top of the engine, and thus the oil.

what ya got?
