You can see on the hood side panel where someone used a scraper to remove the original 971 Select-O-Speed decal. The replacement transmission was also painted gold.
This tractor came with the exact same adjustable top link that is on DoubleNaughtDeuce (in the back ground of the lower photo).

Lumpy- photo posting tips..... in reply to Lumpy, 05-21-2008 10:46:17
Lumpy,
To post multiple pictures go to your photobucket (or whichever photo hosting service you use)account and right click on the first photo to "copy" it. Come back to this forum and "paste" that address in the Optional Image URL box. Go back to photobucket and right click copy your next photo. Come back here and left click at the very far, right end of the Optional Image URL box- just to the right of .jpg from your first photo. The cursor will start blinking. Type in a comma ",". Now right click and paste your next photo. You should now have the web address for two photos in the Optional Image URL box, separated by a comma.

Now that is pretty neat.
I thought you had to write HTML to post multiple pictures.

Yea, but single wheel fronts are tougher.

What did the original factory top links look like for these 00/01 series tractors, I have one that was almost NOS, but had been used a little, came from our dealership, but never knew what time period it was really for. I've only seen another one like, on here in the photo ads that was included with a ford 3 bottom plow in OH, few years back actually.

The one on your tractor, looks similar to one my friend brought to me, it was seized and one threaded end has a bend in it, said made in england on it, I un seized it without using heat too, used a product by gasoila called free-all, though even with the coarse threads, this industrial penetrant did not get all the way in there, pays to keep these clean and lubed, went through this with the leveling box, 3/4 of a day + heated till it was dull orange, finally let loose, when these things seize they are stuck but good.

No kidding, actaully thought I may have seen one similar in a parts book once, that makes it another treasured item from that old dealership, well that's it I'm going to have to get another tractor to go with it to restore, cause I can't take this old workhorse out of service yet.

I recently came across a neat photo of that old place, will have to post that here, looks like I'm rained out the rest of the day right now, good thing too, inconvienent but we need it, going to be a soaker.

Billy:

I"m not certain what models the pictured top link was originally supplied with but an identical one came with my 1951 8N when my Father bought it used in 1974. I"ve two of them.

That is the time period that this one is from, our place had a fully stocked parts dept, and a lot full of the thousand series tractors at that time, this type was the only one I had been accustomed to, though I had only run 4000 size tractors as a kid, so that's all I ever saw. Odd color though, brown, but figured they were a ford product.

I asked about the Top Link in my Teaser II... in reply to Billy NY, 05-20-2008 15:32:39
series and Lumpy posted that the top link with turning handles is not original. He stated that he has an original and it has no handles- the barrel is knurled for gripping.

These photos probably are'nt close enough, but this one is knurled, no handle either, has a latch on top to lock in your adjustment. I beleive it to be an original ford, but was not sure, as it was a wall hanger for a long time, heck I can't even remember what the thousand series original top links looked like, you don't see a lot of these around, like how it works though, don't really need that handle if kept clean and lubed.

That's an interesting find, don't ever recall seeing one of those gold ones at our place way back when, what is the next step can you salvage the gold paint and leave as is, or can it be documented and reapainted to match, kind of a tough call for one of these I'll bet.

Yours is probably an original Ford top link in reply to Billy NY, 05-20-2008 16:24:20
maybe Lumpy will see this and let us know.

There is not enough of the original gold paint to leave my Gold Demo as is. I will have to repaint it.
