Does anyone know how can you determine if "Red" or "Blue" rod bearing inserts have been installed? I've found that bearing clearances are within spec on my '74 2000, but for $30 I'll go ahead and install new rod bearing inserts.

When my local NH dealer quoted me a price, I asked about Red or Blue. He said he's always just ordered Red and never had a problem. I understand the difference in the bearing inserts is in wall thickness, but where is the red/blue mark to be found? Thanx!

There are no red or blue markings on replacement bearings, just different part numbers. But.....my NH dealer more or less told me the same thing, since I was told that the blue bearing part number inserts were not availbable. I didn't argue because my crank journals were the "red" size anyway, and there is only a 4 ten thousands difference in the bearing sizes, while the clearance parameters are .0025-.004 as I recall, more than enough to take in either the red or blue sizes if the crank is in good shape. My $.02
