I've located a model 340 that I'm told may be for sale. From the road it looks it looks similar to a 3000 but has a trencher mounted on it. Does anybody know what ag tractor the 340 is based on? And would it be practical to retrofit it with a 3 point? Any other general info on this model would be greatly appreciated. Any idea what these things worth?

i am not sure what the 340 ford is based on for an ag trator, but i do know they are near the same as a 540 ford.
i am looking for a trencher off of a 340 ford tractor and that one may be the one that i want. if you are willing to give me any information on it i would appreciate it.
thanks, Joe

Who made the trencher unit?

The trencher manufacturer could have ordered the
tractor without a 3-point or PTO if they did not
need them. The 3 point could be easy to add if the
hydraulic pump (the pump on the side of the engine
not the front mount type), etc are on the tractor. If there is no PTO then the work goes up. The biggest difference between the Ag and industrial
tractors is the front axle- the ag is adjustable
width and the industrial is solid for greater strength. I suspect that the practicality of conversion
would depend on how much cheaper you can buy the tracor than an equivalent one already the way
you want it.

Is this actually a 3400? I seen a 3400 with a homemade three point on the back. Looked like it did the trick.

I don't think it's a 3400. I searched the archives and it appears Ford built a 340 in the 1970's but there doesn't seem to be much info out there on them.

I own a Ford 340 tractor/loader bought at Bob sharp equip.in St.Louis county in 1978.It is a 3 cyl. diesel and i am in process of replacing rear main bearing seal and the 3 pt.quit working.I pulled the pressure relief valve on the side of center rear end case, next to flow control valve,as the oil drained out, which it should ,as the differeniial is the reservoir for the 3 pt. lift ,3 pins which are 1/4 dia.1/2 long fell out.Have not pulled hyd, cover plate yet but does any one know what i should be looking for.Suspect internal valve/position control parts or what ever.Any ideas out there? Not solid pins and ends were bent.
