I HAVE A 1978 FOR INDUSTRIAL TRACTOR. FOR SOME REASON ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CLUTCH PEDAL GOT TO WHERE WHEN YOU PUSHED IT IN WOULD MOVE FOR ABOUT 2-3 INCHES AND THEN JUST FALL ALL THE WAY DOWN. YOU ONLY HAVE ABOUT 1-2 INCHES OF RESISTANCE AT THE BOTTOM, YOU HAVE GOT TO REALLY STAND ON IT TO CHANGE GEARS, AND THEN THERE ARE NOT ANY GRINDING OR NOISE. TO GET THE CLUTCH TO RELEASE YOU HAVE TO PUT YOUR FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL AND GET IT STARTED BACK UP, AND THEN IT WILL FLY BACK UP!!!! DOES THIS MEAN THAT MY CLUTCH IS GOING BAD OR IS IT IN MY LINKAGE??? I AM NEW TO THIS TRACTOR AND DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT IT, ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE APPRECIATED BMW

Take a look at the linkage on the clutch cross shaft that goes thru the clutch housing. The cast part of the linkage should be in line with the clutch adjusting rod. I've run into a 4000 that ran over a concrete pipe that bent the cast part of cross shaft causing erratic operation .. If all looks good you might need to clutch that baby..there's usually a reason that people get rid of a usable tractor.. Always remember... With a used tractor , you will get a few used parts.
