12 v conversion, am I missing anything

I have a 850 with a 6 volt positive ground.
This last week the generator and coil died
and I though I would take the opportunity to change to a 12 volt positive ground system. I would change to a 12 volt generator, coil, regulator, battery and leave the 6 volt starter and use the same wiring configuration. I would prefer this over an the alternator set up as the old girl goes to the fair each year. Am I missing anything?
Thanks, Frank

I was hoping someone else would answer this, since I am not 100% sure of the answer. Worry about two more things: the idiot light that shows charging or not charging (probably needs to be 12V now) for models without ammeter, and the gas gauge and sending unit. I doubt if either will work right on twice voltage.

You are right in that the starter does not need to change and will turn the right direction with either polarity.

Thanks, I'm in luck, I have an ammeter and no
gas gauge. Do you think I should keep the positive
ground or change it around.

My personal preference is to keep old tractors original. Mine came with a 12V battery and 6V electricals (that blew out the regulator). I opted to switch back to a 6V battery and replace what I needed. If you have the tractor in decent shape and use good quality battery cables, 6V is not a problem.

If you are set on going to 12V, You probably need to go negative ground. Most available regulators will be set up for that.
