Do you have a proofmeter? (tachometer) If so, what engine Rpm and gear do I need to run a pto at 540 rpm? My proofmeter was gone when I bought the tractor. Thanks.

John,

Nope! Only gauge I have operational is the temp - I have a wooden dowel for my gas gauge and listen to the hum of the engine for rpms. So far it seems to work pretty good. Sorry. Joe D.

You might give Walt Tractors a try for advice if not the product. They do have some Dexta parts.

you cannot control your pto by gears as it is live and will run as fast as your engine goes in any gear . the tach poofmeter are availble at your local ford dealer but be ware they are pricey.I have a 1960 dexta and have purchased many of my parts through them, owners manuel is also availble through them and also after market sorces hope this helps you as I am still trying to find all the paint codes the orange of the wheels I need

I have a 1960 3cyl Diesel Dexta-The tach didn't
function. I disassembled the unit and the bearing
was frozen and had broken the drive cable. I was able to free the bearing with a little WD40 and bought
a universal spedo cable kit at my local auto supply house for 4.00 ,cut it to length and the tach has operated just perfectly for many hours.
