I knew sooner or later I'd probably have a problem, as I have not done any work on the 3 pt. hydraulics., was functioning ok, but you never know what condition things are in until you take them apart. I've got my counterweight on and it won't lift it up so I can take the bar out from under the lift arms and let it down. I lifted it al the way up before, but did settle, so I'm sure I've got some issues in there. Knowing that this is a frequent question & problem that most hundred series owners will deal with at some time, does anyone recall any posts from the archives with good coverage on the subject ? Trying to figure out where the best place to start is, I do have the shop manual and parts books, I'm confident I'll figure it out, might need a point in the right direction etc. This is a '55 850, not sure of the pump type.

Thanks Again !!!

i can only add little but i get tired of only asking, never helping. So here goes, vane pump has the HY-TROL label on it and more distinguishable by the MORE and LESS dial (maybe its high and low)anyway there is a dial to increase and decrease the flow,They are notorious for no longer working so if you havethis type, you've been fortunate thus far. I here there is no sense in rebuilding these cause they're junk anyway. A piston type pump has no dial but seems to be far more reliable, though that probably means little to you right now, 1st step i would do is ask some more of these guys where to get a pressure guage to see if the pump itself is working. Not to sure yet how it hooks up but I believe its a simple matter of taking out plug on the pump and getting the right fitting to "tap" in. This should be a start (albiet not much of one). More importantly go on the 8n board and look up a guy called ZANE, he is extremely knowledgable on hydraulics and has been known to post his e-mail address un-hidden so you may be able to get a 1 on 1 with him. He'll certainely be able to get you going in a better direction. My 2 bits..... .(inflation) Tom n

Apprectiate the info,I think what happened was the pump may have lost prime, had it parked with the nose higher than the back end overnight, normally it's parked on the flat in the garage, I believe it re-primed itself, as it lifted the weight off, I was in the middle of a landscape job next door, had plowed an old garden area with the 2 bottom, and needed to disc it off, which I did, the lift arms "shuddered" for a little bit, but it seemed to go back to normal or as it has been working, but it settles too much I think, think it has symptoms I've read about here before. We all know how that goes, any signs of trouble, usually never fix themselves, so, now that the majority of my work is done, I'll have to service this system, which I'm not too familiar with, but with a little help, I'll get it done, at least it did not stop working like I thought it did. I read the threads on this board and am familiar with Zane, lot of support for these tough old tractors !
