871 pwr steering injector pump issues

My questions are admittedly a little vague. A friend has an 871 diesel with power steering pump problems, plus diesel fuel leaking into the crankcase. An experienced mechanic has worked on both issues w/o long term success, but I don't have details. Are these two pumps fully rebuildable with parts from NH (or elsewhere)? Would a better route for the power steering pump be replacing it with a different model? The owner thinks a GM pump could be easily adapted. Does the injector pump have any common problems that replacement of the shaft seal won't solve?

Thanks in advance.

I have a 841 with power steering that had a problem but has been repaired. I have a mechanic that has a power steering pump that he rebuilt and it is sitting on his shelf in his shop. Mcferrin Tractor Lubbock,Tx (806) 762-4343
If it does not fit , he can order the parts or tell you where to get them.

I will pass on the power steering but will comment on the fuel pump.

If fuel is leaking in the crank case I would say you have one of two problems.
1st one I think you have already tried. Resealing the fuel pump manily drive shaft seal.
2nd would be the fuel return lines under the valve cover. Remove the valve cover and check the fuel line and fittings for leaks.

I will second that statement. Check the 'injector bleed-off line' under the valve cover. It is a small diameter steel tubing brazed to brass fitings. The brazes tend to crack with age, causing diesel to run down into the crankcase. Because there is not check valve between the bleed line and the bottom of the fuel tank, it may actually leak diesel into the crankcase when the tractor is parked and not running (I know my 841D did this). On my tractor the Ford p/n is 311412. Either get a new one or check the tractor boneyards.
