Apparently, someone turned the manifold over and put a Zenith carburetor on a 1926 Fordson, I'd like to find out more about how an orginal carburetor looked. I'd like to find an original 1926 carburetor or how to find a needle and seat for a large Zenith. I'd appreciate any help.

Bob

I am currently working on a 1923 Model F Fordson. This particular tractor has a manifold marked "for gasoline only" and has what I believe is a Zenith downdraft carburetor. The carb was in pretty bad condition, float & venturi both missing. All passages were clogged and the mixture adjusting needle was rusted solid in the lower body. I have since repaired all of the above with some parts I was able to obtain plus the rest I made or improvised. The Model A Ford Zenith Float Valve is interchangeable and readily available. I was able to modify a float from a Tecumseh carburetor to fit. By the way all stock Model A's used updraft carburetors. I do have photos of the carburetor, both before and after if you would like I can e-mail them to you.
I am by no means an expert on Fordsons or this particular carb. but I do have three antique Ford cars that I have restored, a 1926 Model T, 1931 Model A and a 1940 V8.

I have not started the Fordson yet, but getting close. Had to rebuild the ignition system entirely and now in the process of replacing a couple valves and a leaky head gasket, just to mention a few items.

Would really like to find some literature on this carb as I am guessing on jet sizes, etc.

This was fairly common -- my grandfather did the same thing: turned the manifold upside-down & used a Model A downdraft carburetor. Not sure why, but he must have thought it was a better carburetor...

If you want an "original" carburetor, try www.fordsonhouse.com -- they have a ton of stuff in stock. Might help if you have a picture of your manifold to send them, as there are several different manifold set-ups (and yours may not be factory-original to the tractor). HTH
