What should I do with my Roadless conversion? It is on a 1959 FPM that has broken parts all over it including a cracked block. The front end frame pieces are twisted and or cracked.Would it be a correct fit on a Super Major?Does a 1958 Major have enough power? There was previous mention about the serial number on the front axel not representing year or being traceable. Is that still true? Thanks in advance.

Fit it to a Super Major and put a 590E six cylinder engine in it. Then have some fun.

I have a super major roadless 6cyl in England (picture on the tractor photos on this site - search 'roadless'). My tractor was fitted with driven front axle from new (1961) roadless continued long after this and onto the Ford tractors until Ford fitted their own 4wd and scuppered the conversion market. D.H. and G Pantry bought the records for Roadless and still keep parts here in the UK. They have dated my conversion as a 'fitted from new' rather than 'sold as a kit'. Try calling them in the UK on (international code) + 01427 752234 or fax 754216

I have been looking for the 590E engine, no luck yet.

Does the two serial numbers, the one on the tractor and the one on axel, "match" the records that these people obtained from the manufacturer? Or is it less specific?

Mark, check out the tractor serial number on the list on Oscar's Fordson pages (fordson.freeweb.nl) , this should help with dating the tractor but Pantry's work on the roadless axle (conversion) number.

The tag is 363 on the axel.1959 Power Major serial number is 1526675.I could not find the information that Geoff Pantry had on the Roadless numbers at Oscars.

your serial number for the tractor makes it an August 1959 tractor as you say , you will have to contact Mr pantry by fax or phone to get a date for the roadless axle.

Good luck

Thanks for the tip. I have not been there in awhile.

As for a County, that would be nice but I have yet to find one here in my area.

How about a 6.2L Chev diesel?Adapters from a 350V8 will bolt up, it is just a matter of getting a flywheel and the rest of the headaches.

I think you should scrap the thing completely and buy a County

It sounds like it would bolt up to a Super (anyone know for sure?).
My "64 Super needs a new front end so I might as well make it a better tractor with the Roadless.
Can you send some pictures of it?
What if I arranged for a trucking company to transport it to SC?
Jim Kay, you obviously have first dibs on it, so I will only consider this if it doesn"t work out for you.
Mark, have you thought about what you would want for it?
Thanks,
Jeff

Sorry, I didn't see this until now. Someone password protected Mark S so I changed to Mark 1.It seemed that Mark 1, the early 1950's engine on a Major, was close to my birthday!!

Call me if you are interested in the Roadless. 541-938-9227.Leave a message on the wife's machine and I will get back to you.

$300 ??? seems about right. You would get the 4x4 stuff plus what ever is left after I swap onto my other 3 (or 4) Majors. Remember that the driveline is missing and the PTO shaft that faces forward is snapped off right at the gear box.
