I have a canister next to the fuel tank that leaks in several spots. I want to know if I can eliminate this from the system. The fuel tank drains out the bottom thru a line into this canister then out the bottom of this canister thru a petcock to the sediment bowl. There is one other small line that connects the top of the canister to the fuel tank, like an overflow. Does any one know of any problems I might experience without this second tank.

Joe, I don't know where you live. Have a look at the Gallery on my website and try to find other Petrol Dexta owners for help and infos. www.fordson-dexta.de Stefan

Petrol Dexta were fitted with an extra fuel tank. It is thought that the Petrol was a very thirsty tractor. Why do you want to remove the tank?

Stefan, great picture of your dexta! The canister is in rough shape with several welds already. I thought if I kept it out than I could avoid replacing it. Also it would give me a nice spot to mount the battery. I don't want to limit the fuel range so maybe I will try to repair or replace. I have a lot of questions about the tractor with limited sources of info. I have an IT manual but it is to general and not very model specific. Could you reccomend a good repair manual for this tractor?

I have Petrol D. Petrol Dexta is very thirsty. My tank only needed a small repair near the bung which needed only a dab of gasoline resistant epoxy to repair. Many people like to remove the extra tank and put the battery in there. Without extra tank, expect extra pitstops!
If your tank is very bad, have a rad shop boil it out, and then treat whatever is left to a nice fiberglass wrap.It will last for years!
