Thanks Ron, I just got this tractor last week and love it. It does need some TLC but it is a real good starting point for a full resto.

How do you tell if it"s a Major, Power Major or Super Major?

S/N on block is 1532129

It has a loader and Sherman 54E backhoe, everything works and it starts first time everytime.

according to the book ,it's a Power, that's a major coincidance(no pun intended) I purchased a 58 last year with the same equipment on it but it is without the normal farm hydraulic lift unit which is under the seat, is yours the same?It does have a PTO shaft.

Mine has nothing under the seat, I guess that was for a 3 point hitch unit?

The hoe and loader all work perfectly and the cylinders dont leak, but both the control units leak down slowly, except for the outriggers, they will keep the tractor off the ground.

Mine has had a pretty hard life, no fenders, no instruments (tach & ??), no lights. So I have quite a lot of work ahead of me but it runs so sweet that I think it will be worth it.

Someone painted it Cat yellow so a sandblast and repaint is obviously in order.

Thanks for the tips, any info is really appreciated.

mine was painted cat yellow also and also in rough shape, I think that whoever ordered them from them UK had them specifically repainted and rigged for const. Listen one problem I've had is the front engine shaft that drives the hydraulic pump, make sure the hub on the front of the crankshaft is in good shape, if it lets go it can do alot of damage.

Thanks Ron, I will check that.

Luckily I own a machine shop so a lot of the resto parts I can make myself.

Hey, what is the lever on the right side under the tank, under the kill knob?

It doesnt seem to be attached to anything.

that's the high and low range gear selector. These tractors are actually 6 foward and 2 reverse speed

Sorry to take so long to reply Ron, been away for the holidays.

I have a 10 acre horse ranch in the San Bernardino Mountains of California. Hence the need for a backhoe to get under the horse shelters for "mucking out".

My tractor has no fenders, which is scary now that I have fixed the brakes and can run in 6th gear, do you have a source for them anywhere?

Also, do you have full gages on yours? I have none, only an empty shell that rattles around the steering column.

If you do is there any way I could get a digital photo?, would be forever grateful.

most big truck or brake shops will reline your old ones for you instead of exchanging
