I don't know what tractor we are talking about but if it has an oil bath air cleaner it could be as simple as that being to full of, or to thin of oil. At high RPMs you could suck a shot of oil in through the intake when you hit a bump or turn sharp. Causes a lot of smoke for about a minute. Sounds stupid but I have seen it happen!

I wish I would have thought of this. You could just remove the rubber air hose then that goes to the motor and do a test run.

We have discussed this problem here before. In my own experience, concerning my Super Major, the engine smokes when running at lower RPM. We have determined that it may be due to a hole in the injector pump diaphram, or that it may be an injector that is not atomising fuel properly. I haven't yet torn down my injector pump to determine if that is the culprit, but I suspect it is. Gale, read the exchange entitled "Accelerator Mystery" posted a month or so ago, if you haven't done so already. You might get some ideas there.

Is it hot or cold when this happens?Unusual sounds? Is the motor running at a certain rpm when this occurs? What position is the engine control lever when it smokes, or is it any position, or after you change the lever setting?

Tractor seems to be worse at higher rpms
It doesn`t use excess amounts of oil
Tractor has plenty of power even when it smokes
Tractor starts so easy even in the coldest weather I can`t believe it.
But when it smokes it smokes alot.

Assuming it reaches operating temperature and still smokes white? smoke, it sounds like a sticking injector or two. Compression problems would create hard starting problems, plus blue smoke. There are several things to try or you could spend a lot of money on the injectors and pump rebuild?? Try a diesel fuel cleaner first.

When it doesn't smoke is the rpm higher than when it smokes alot?
