I'm having a heckava time trying to get my fuel tank off. The wheel won't budge and that's that! I'm afraid to break it off... Any suggestions?

My grandfather's Fordson Major Diesel had a tank that leaked right at the seam. Apparently this was a notorious problem with these tractors. Our solution was to never fill the tank more than half full. You don't have to take the steering wheel off for this. :)

wish that was the problem. I have lots of rust in the reserve section and whenever I run low or hit a bump or go at an angle the garbage gets into the fule line clogs the filter and shuts her down! so, tanks gotta come off...

Jack are you pulling your tank off to make, a repair. My Fordson has tank problems. I wonder if this is a weak point in the tractor. I have noticed other people asking about replacement tanks. Keep posted, because I'm about to try to pull my tank also. I guess I'll try solder,or some J.B.Weld. maybe someone can help us out.

I have rust, twigs, feathers and small reptiles in my tank that keep plugging my fuel filters. I want to r+r so that I can boil it out, and coat the inside with some stuff I keep hearing about. Rinsing it with diesal and draining on the tractor just doesn't seem to cut it. ;) Thanks for you help. I understand JB will work but weld braze might be better for you.

Jack, If you get your fuel tank off, there's a place in Stockton - ABC Radiator (800) 391-7401 - that does vintage vehicle gas tank restoration. You might check 'em out. I had to use a wheel puller and liquid wrench to get the steering wheel off my Dexta and it took a couple of days of soaking. Good luck, Harry

I will give abc a call when I get the tank off. I probably can clean and coat the tank if I can ever get the darn Steering wheel off. I live in Herald CA. Not too far from Stockton... so, This is a good suggestiong.
