Hi,
I am the proud owner of a fordson super major new performance tractor. The three point linkage is stuck in the upper position. When moving the main control lever up or down there is no response from the lift arms. I think it has to do with the flow control. There is a lever next to the upper position of the main control lever. It is connected to the flow control box via an adjustable rod. A knob is next to this connection but is seized by paint and rust. I cant move it. Is it a screw connection or a push in/out operation? I have heated it up but had no success in moving it. Can any body give me advise please. Is this the correct way to lower the stuck arms?

Sounds too elementary, but are you engaging the PTO while attempting to lower the 3-point? I ask because, as the new owner of a Super Major, I didn't know to do this, and of course the hydraulics don't work unless you've got the PTO engaged. Changes are good that you already know this, but one experienced mechanic, working on my tractor, had to be reminded.

Woolman,
Thanks for the reply. I will make sure the PTO is angaged.

It will not be anything to do with that flow control as this works on the raise cycle.

A New Performance Super does have a flow control on the drop and this is a metal star shaped knob coming out of the lift near the high/low gear lever around the area of your right leg and pointing forwards.

The most likely cause of your problem is a stuck unload valve in the ram cylinder, This can only really be freed by removing the lift and freeing the valve in its bush. Sometimes a load on the arms and a sharp blow on the lift cover near the small bolt on the aux service unit (the bit with the flow control) may free the valve but be careful. The load will drop quickly if you try this method and injure the unwary.

There is a lot of information on these tractors on Link

Majorman,
Thanks for your reply. The tractor is on my holiday spot. Unfortunately I can't go there for another two months.
Then I will inform you about the outcome of your suggestions.
Fritz
